Shining a light on the inspiring people

OF HANCOCK COUNTY, WV

Lindsey Spilecki

Miss Lindsey, Coach, Lindsey, or just Spilecki . . . She may go by several names, but  she answers to all.  She wears a variety of different hats but is there for all. Lindsey herself will tell you that she prefers to hang out behind the scenes. Her heart, her enthusiasm, her dedication to her students, and tireless involvement within our community have brought her into the spotlight for this inaugural blog of “In Focus”.

Lindsey Spilecki is a licensed speech-language pathologist for Hancock County. In addition to her clinical role, Lindsey has been involved with numerous educational and community activities. She volunteers, she coaches, and she tutors.  She directs all the theatre productions at Oak Glen High School.  She keeps busy!

Lindsey attended West Liberty State College, where she majored in Speech Pathology and Audiology. She loves that she found a profession that allows her to impact others’ lives directly and in a positive way. She also loves that she is able to work in a school setting. Lindsey started her career working in the pre-k setting, specifically in special needs pre-k. She works side by side with teachers to foster communication in the classroom, implementing the use of augmentative communication within those classrooms. In the 13 years that she has worked in Hancock County, she’s had opportunities to work at the elementary, middle, and high school locations. Lindsey smiles and shares  that she now works with some of her very first students from her early years, and they are at the high school level. “It’s been an honor to watch them grow”, she says.

She loves her clinical role as a licensed speech language pathologist. But, if you ask Lindsey where her favorite place is, she’s probably going to tell you that it would be the Little Theatre at Oak Glen. Lindsey says that she knew she wanted to teach and be involved in theatre by the time she was 17 years old. “I knew I wanted to come back to Oak Glen and teach”, says Lindsey. As is often the case, life didn’t really work out the way she expected, but the desire to teach theatre was always there.

The theatre directing “coaching” position opened unexpectedly in September of 2017. Lindsey saw the opening but chose not to bid on the job. However, someone else mentioned her name to the principal at the time. They said that Lindsey had a lot of experience and would be a perfect fit. The principal reached out to Lindsey and he asked if she would be willing to take on the position. She agreed. In October 2017, she was appointed as the Masque and Sword Club advisor at Oak Glen High School. Serendipity stepped in and navigated a dream come true for Lindsey, and in the process, the students of Hancock county won.

Lindsey is a passionate and inspiring leader whose creativity and dedication bring every production to life. With a deep knowledge of theatrical arts and a keen eye for detail, she guides each cast and crew member with patience and encouragement. Whether shaping characters, designing dynamic scenes, or solving last minute stage dilemmas, she approaches every challenge with insight and enthusiasm. With her casual laid back demeanor, she fits right in with the teenagers she’s advising. Within the walls of the Little Theatre, the students are in a safe, non-judgemental place. They probably don’t even realize all the life lessons, and drama expertise she’s sharing with them.  Her unwavering support and visionary direction have not only elevated the performances at Oak Glen High School Little Theatre, but have also fostered a creative space where students can shine in.

Thank you, Lindsey Spilecki. Your commitment to excellence in education and your patience in nurturing each student’s potential is truly admirable. Thank you for your inspiration, dedication and love for the students and residents of Hancock county.

Being in front of the camera wasn't stressful at all. Right Lindsey???? :)
